Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2022 - Library Release
Hunting Hill is a vineyard that was first planted in 1982 and became a significant part of the original Kumeu River Chardonnay blend. Occupying the slope overlooking Maté’s Vineyard, it has always contributed lovely ripe and rich fruit to the Estate Chardonnay. Hunting Hill was replanted in 2000 and is now even better than before, giving beautifully ripe fruit with a distinctive, mealy minerality.
Winemaker's Notes
2022 was a very good year in Kumeu, with abundant clean fruit and nothing much to fight against. The wine shows clean, bright lemon fruit with real concentration and focus, subtle toast, a little meal and a note of pineapple. There is an almost tannic grip to it, tightening the structure and refreshing the sweeter spice notes. Four years in bottle have drawn it together rather than softened it, and there is plenty of road ahead.
