Blind Tasting in San Francisco

16 June 14

Kumeu River's US importer Wilson Daniels recently put on a blind tasting of Kumeu River Chardonnays and Premier Cru White Burgundies for a select group of San Francisco's finest Sommeliers at Prospect Restaurant in San Francisco.

We have often heard stories about Kumeu River Chardonnays doing well in blind tastings among some very fine Burgundy and on this occasion Paul was in attendance to hear the comments from the tasters and to see how the Kumeu River wines fit among some of the finest Chardonnays in the world.

The results speak for themselves with the Kumeu River wines being top in two of the three flights. This certainly confirmed the world class quality of the Kumeu River Chardonnays.

To insure a level playing field, the following criteria was used to select the Burgundy wines for the flights:

1) All wines in each flight must be of the same vintage

2) All Burgundy selections must be from the same 1er Cru appellation

3) All Burgundy selections must be purchased from a respected local retailer for under $100

4) All Burgundy selections must have received a score of 90 points or higher from 1st tier press

The results are listed below along with the wines, the order in which they were served and the retail price points in US dollars.
