We enjoyed a very good spring season last year, especially from the point of view of having no late frost. November gave us beautiful weather that meant the flowering was perfect, and the fruit set very good indeed. Dry and warm conditions right through the growing season from December 2013 and into early 2014 brought the harvest forward by about 7-10 days, and the ripening was exceptional and very even. There was no rot to speak of, and the fruit quality was superb which has resulted in wines of great character and definition. The crop was higher than first expected, but this did not affect quality in any way. We look forward to seeing how these wines develop over the coming months, but from my early assessments I am very confident that the 2014 vintage will come to be regarded as one of the greatest ever.
